How to choose an engagement ring?

How much should you spend?

Often the first question that people ask themselves is ‘how much is the appropriate amount to spend on an engagement ring?’ and the honest answer is, it’s entirely up to you. In our opinion, the price of an engagement ring isn’t the most important factor, it’s about the sentiment behind it. It’s not always about the price tag, so don’t worry about spending a year’s wages on a ring, as we have a wide variety to suit all budgets.

How do you know what size?

Getting the right size ring when planning a surprise engagement can be a tricky operation. If you’re unsure of the size, there are two methods you could try. Method 1 is to borrow a ring that your partner wears on their ring finger and take it to your local jeweller for sizing. Then carefully return it like it was never moved.

If this isn’t possible, method 2 is to trace the internal circumference and compare it to an online size guide or bring the outline again to your local jeweller. As we said, it’s not easy, but if you do get the size wrong don’t worry as we can resize it post proposal!

What stone should you choose?

Sadly, not all stones are created the same and some just aren’t suitable for everyday wear. Whilst your partner may have their heart set on their birthstone, this isn’t always advisable as it may dull or damage easily over time.
