The Valuation Schedule

A valuation schedule can be a complex document, these are a few abbreviations to help you better understand what a valuation contains and why.

NRV. – New replacement value: this value reflects the current new replacement price of the same item or a similar article of equivalent quality and like method of manufacture. It does not, however, allow for recreating a handmade facsimile of the original.

SHRV. – Second-hand replacement value: this value reflects the current second-hand replacement price of a similar article of equivalent quality and like condition. The value stated makes no pro rata allowance whatsoever for individual replacement of component parts in the event of partial loss. Neither does it take account of the cost of restoring or recreating the article described in the event of major damage.

ARV. – Antique replacement value: This value should enable the owner to obtain a similar antique article of equivalent quality and in like condition, and is normally ascribed to articles believed to one hundred or more years old. The value state make no pro rata allowance whatsoever for individual replacement of component parts in the event of partial loss. Neither does it take account of the cost of restoring or recreating the article described in the event of  major damage.

FV. – Facsimile value: this value reflects the likely current replacement price of recreating a facsimile of the original utilising the same method of  manufacture with like quality materials, if the article is originally handmade the value will include the cost of like craftsmanship.

CV. – Compensation value: this value is normally applied to rare and unusual articles, including signed pieces, all of which would be exceedingly difficult or even impossible to replace and the value stated should adequately enable the owner to purchase a different but of equal quality to the item  but not better than the article lost, to compensate that loss.
